Ben Wallace is a retired professional basketball player who played 16 seasons in the NBA. He is best known for his defensive prowess, earning four Defensive Player of the Year awards and being selected to the All-Defensive First or Second Team eight times.

Wallace was born in White Hall, Alabama, and attended Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, Ohio, before transferring to Virginia Union University. He was undrafted in the 1996 NBA draft, but was signed by the Washington Bullets.
