Bloody Sunday, also known as the Bogside Massacre, was a massacre that took place on 30 January 1972 in the Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland. The incident occurred when British soldiers of the 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment, shot 28 unarmed civil rights protesters and bystanders during a peaceful march against internment without trial. Fourteen people died as a result of the shooting, and another fourteen were injured.
