Andy Burnham is a British politician who is the Mayor of Greater Manchester. He was previously a Member of Parliament (MP) for Leigh from 2001 to 2017.

Burnham was born in Aintree, Liverpool, and studied at the University of Salford. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Leigh in 2001, and served as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport from 2008 to 2009. He was appointed Shadow Home Secretary in 2010, and was elected Mayor
