Alexis Tsipras is a Greek politician who served as Prime Minister of Greece from 2015 to 2019. He was the leader of the left-wing Syriza party from 2009 to 2019.

Tsipras was born in Athens in 1974 and grew up in the city’s working-class district of Ambelokipi. He studied civil engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, graduating in 2000.
