Alexandre Dumas, pere (July 24, 1802 – December 5, 1870) was a French writer best known for his historical novels of high adventure. He is one of the most widely read French authors in the world. His novels have been translated into nearly 100 languages, and he is one of the most widely adapted authors in the history of film.

Dumas was born in Villers-Cotterêts, Aisne, in the Picardy
