Brexit is the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU). It follows a referendum held in June 2016 in which 51.9% of those who voted chose to leave the EU.

The UK officially left the EU on 31 January 2020, after the UK Parliament and the European Parliament both ratified the withdrawal agreement.

The UK is now in a transition period until 31 December 2020, during which time the UK and EU will negotiate a future trade deal.
